i like nothing more than intense, emotive, slow burning electronic music. there have been many examples in recent years; from Battles post-tronica / math hybrid (see ATLAS as a prime example) to the layer-upon-layer avant-rave techno of Homework era Daft Punk (Rollin’ & Scratchin’ is a top of the pile example).

So imagine my excitement when via Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Records site, i came across Babe,Terror.

the whole EP is awash with long, dark ambience, clever sampling (at least it appears like samples) and beats that are both heavy hitting and lighter than a fairies smooch.  It’s the sort of sounds I play when I’m DJing, especially to provoke a response from apathetic hipsters and indie loving beer swill students.

Standout track for me is LIFANTASTIC ii, so here it is below :

    I do my listening at home, but that does have some appeal. I went through a Kranky phase a few years ago, found Stars of The Lid and a few others – listening to a lot of Robert Rich these days.
